Follow this company will make the Taft Theatre its temporary home for the 2012-13 season and take over management of the historic downtown theater.
The CSO signed a multiyear lease agreement last week with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, which will continue to own the facility. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The theater will be managed by Music and Event Management Inc., a CSO subsidiary.
In addition to managing the Taft, the CSO also will invest in improvements to the 2,500-seat theater. Those renovations are expected to be complete by the time of the start of the orchestra’s 2012-13 season, according to a press release.
The move will become necessary as work gets under way on the $100 million revitalization of Music Hall in Over-the-Rhine. The project is expected to take about a year and a half, starting in May 2012.
In addition to housing the CSO, the Taft will continue to host concerts, plays and other events, as well as serve as the home of the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.
